WASTE BASKET PROGRAM

Fabulous baskets made by fabulous volunteers at the weaving workshop Aug 09

Its a messy and frustrating start!
Using package strapping collected by the local community,we designed baskets that would be functional for our lifestyles. The types of baskets ranged from something to keep knick knacks in, to bike panniers and picnic baskets.

A great way to keep your fingers warm on a cold day.

The resource that was used was found to be fairly difficult to work with as it has a mind of its own! Package strapping is extremely strong and available in many length and colours so it was an appropriate choice.
We also discovered that this exercise needed a fair amount of maths and measurement which was great to get the old grey matter ticking over!

From little thing big things grow

Apart from producing some fabulous baskets , the group also produced ideas and information about other weaving projects that they had made or seen elsewere in exhibitions. We have discovered a that craft network can inspire and nurture all levels of abilities.

Plenty of handcrafted smiles produced too!

T shirt Workshop November09

Using old T Shirts that were donated by op shops and the community we brushed up on our crochet, rag rugging and knitting skills to produce some pretty funky mats, cushions and bags.

How far can a t shirt be pushed?

We realised that we had hit on a resource that is abundant, versatile and biodegradable which are perfect qualifications for recycling. Who knew that so much could grow from waste!

Paper Recycling workshop Feb 12th to March 19th

Recycling with paper was wet and a bit messy ,perfect for hot days! We learnt how to pulp paper and use it to make 2d and 3d forms. Many of the bowls and jewellry made is now for sale in the shop.

This lesson also involved using molds. We learnt that there are many ways to take a cast from a form, some are correct and others dont work at all! We also learnt to colour and emboss paper .

Plastic Bag Recycling May 14th June18th 2010
